Back in 2011, I sat down for an interview with my buddy Lanzar for his website, which at the time was called Blazing Pocket. I dug that interview back up in 2024 for an AJnet Archives article, mostly because it was an interesting little snapshot of where I was and where the site was more than a decade earlier.
If you don’t know who Lanzar is by this point, then you clearly haven’t been paying attention. I feel like I’ve been plugging this guy’s website in every other article lately. Lanzar has been hanging around the AJnet extended universe for years, he’s contributed to both AJnet Magazine and Rantlister, and his current site, Yozuki Drive, has become one of the few independent websites I regularly send people toward.
A few weeks ago, an email from Lanzar suddenly popped into my inbox. There was no warning or buildup, just 22 interview questions waiting for me. Apparently, after about fifteen years, it was time for round two.
I ended up answering the questions gradually over the next couple of weeks, usually while eating breakfast before work.
Lanzar asked about how AJnet got started, where the name came from, how the site has changed over nearly two decades, how I approach writing, what goes into running the site, and why I’m still doing this after all these years.
We also got into AJnet’s staff, the old internet, social media, censorship, preserving old websites, the difference between building an online community then versus now, and plenty of other stuff surrounding the strange little corner of the internet I’ve spent almost twenty years maintaining.
And yes, Señor Juan came up too. Of course he did, Lanzar is obsessed with him for some reason.
The finished interview is now live over at Yozuki Drive. If you’ve ever wondered about the history behind AJnet, how this whole thing operates behind the scenes, or why I continue dumping an alarming amount of my free time into websites in 2026, Lanzar’s interview covered quite a bit of it.
So go check out the interview, poke around Yozuki Drive while you’re there, and give the guy some traffic.
Then come back here, because we still need the traffic too.
