RIP Ozzy

The Prince of Darkness and king of heavy metal has died. RIP Ozzy Osbourne.

Today’s article was originally supposed to be an AJnet Anime Club article. Instead, I’m going to pay my respects to one of the OGs of heavy metal. The Anime Club article will publish on Friday instead.

I’m writing this one as it comes into my head, so it’s probably going to seem kind of disjointed. I guess I’ll keep it short.

It’s around 7 PM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. I just found out a few hours ago that mere weeks after his farewell concert, metal legend Ozzy Osbourne has died. Needless to say, I’m pretty bummed out.

I want to say I’m shocked at the news, but the truth is I kind of felt like this was coming. The guy wasn’t in good health, and from the stories I’ve read about him I’m amazed he made it to 76. He was the epitome of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll.

So what do I say when one of the kings of heavy metal has died?

What can I say, except thank you.

Thank you for the great music you gave us. Thank you for giving us classics like “War Pigs”, “Paranoid”, and “Iron Man”. Thank you for “Symptom of the Universe”, “N.I.B.”, and “Snowblind” (which I’m ashamed to admit took me way too long to realize was about doing blow). Thank you for your solo tracks like “Bark at the Moon”, “Mr. Crowley”, and “Crazy Train”.

Thank you for that reality show, which was funnier than I’ll ever care to admit.

Speaking of reality shows, thank you for doing the theme song to Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Thank you for creating one of the most memorable, iconic, and influential hard rock bands of all time, and pioneering an entire genre.

Thank you for kicking ass, Ozzy. You may be gone, but your music will always live on.

Now ride that crazy train down to Hell and show the devil who the REAL prince of darkness is.

Rest in peace, Ozzy.
