Changes coming soon!

Big changes are coming to AJnet Magazine soon.

Last week, I announced the return of Rantlister, as well as work beginning on the DrakeGTA Archives.

In that article, I also said that this site was due for a renovation, and work on that would begin after DrakeGTA was done.

As of now, work isn’t quite done on DrakeGTA, but I wanted to take a moment here and talk about some of the changes we have planned for AJnet Magazine so readers aren’t completely blindsided when we start implementing them. We may also not wait to finish DrakeGTA before starting work on this site (the guy had hundreds of articles, that’s going to take a while to transfer over), so it’s probably better if I post this sooner than later.

One of the first things I intend to do is get rid of Disqus.

The biggest reason that I have for wanting to ditch Disqus is that using it puts us at the mercy of their terms of service. Readers have to follow Disqus’s rules when posting comments on MY site, and that doesn’t sit well with me.

There’s a few other minor reasons, like privacy and SEO, but for the most part I just don’t like them having control over what my readers can and can’t say. Disqus will most likely be replaced with WordPress’s comment system, along with some anti-spam measures.

We’ll also be moving the site from Ionos, our current host, to Knownhost. Our other projects are all on Knownhost, and they load buttery smooth. This site loads like hot buttered shit. Ionos seems more concerned with upselling me on services I don’t need than providing hosting that doesn’t lag. Moving away from them has been on my itinerary for several years now, and it’s time to finally make it happen.

I also want to fix how the site handles URLs.

Currently WordPress is in its own folder, hence why the site is “angryjerk.net/wp”. I hate that goddamned /wp, I’ve always hated it. We’ll be fixing this so all links are straightforward and don’t include /wp in the URL.

One of the biggest changes that we have planned for this site though is the layout.

I’m still not 100% sure what it’s going to look like or what direction we’re going with it yet, but it’s going to look way better than the cobbled together shit layout that we have now. Whatever we come up with, I’d also like to include a dark mode, since I know some of you prefer light text on dark background.

Our number one goal for 2026 is to retake our position on Google for the term “angry jerk”. Right now we’re not even on the map , which is kind of insane when you consider that we’ve been here for almost 20 years and the domain is AngryJerk.net. Fuck that restaurant for taking our traffic, I’ve let them go for way too long. Jason Miskiri and his Angry Jerk Caribbean restaurants are officially on notice. We’re coming for you (on Google). Your little restaurant chain isn’t shit compared to the might of the AJnet Organization. Thanks for keeping the top spot warm for us though.

We’re not quite sure how long all of this is going to take, but we’re hoping to have it all done by no later than June. Realistically, it’s probably not going to take anywhere near that long. We said Rantlister would take a whole month, but we finished it in less than two weeks, so what the hell do we know about timeframes? If all goes according to plan, the new site should debut at the beginning of May.

So if you come to the site one day and it looks like more of a ghetto mess than usual, it’s probably because we’re in the process of updating things. Be patient, the end result will be great. We’re moving this site out of the ghetto and into the suburbs. And just like most people who move out of the ghetto into the suburbs, you can be sure that we’ll be bringing down the property value of the neighborhood.
