Holy shit, Rantlister is back!
You might remember me mentioning a couple of weeks ago that we were working on an archival/revival of Rantlister. The project was scheduled to be completed by the end of March, possibly sooner.
As it turns out, we completed it much sooner.
The theme that the old Rantlister used, Ikarus, is long gone. But with help from ChatGPT, we were able to reskin another WordPress theme and essentially recreate the original look of Rantlister. It’s not a perfect copy, but I think it came out pretty damn close.
Rather than try to restart the concept with a new list and new sites and all that, we decided that it might be a better idea to treat it as both an archive and a place to share new content. Of all the sites from the List, AngryJerk.net is quite literally the only site left that still updates. There aren’t other rant sites out there that we could find, so creating a new version with new sites would be a fruitless endeavor. Instead, we decided to recreate the List using a combination of thumbnails that I had saved on my computer and copies of the sites on the Internet Archive. Readers of the new Rantlister are able to browse old copies of most of the List sites and see them as they were in their prime. We also used the Internet Archive to retrieve the old iRants and other creative writings from Rantlister staff like Bob Smash, Bagoda, and DrakeGTA. These articles, along with the interviews, have been republished on the new site with the same dates as they were originally published.
The new Rantlister will also have fresh content. The iRant feature is reopened, and readers can submit their own iRants to the site. I’ll be posting my own iRants there sporadically as well. We have some other ideas for content, but like I said in my latest post on Rantlister:
I was going to make a post sharing some of these ideas, but honestly me talking about plans instead of actually executing them is what killed the site the last time (and why we’re Rantlister.NET instead of Rantlister.COM now). Don’t say it, just do it. All I’ll say is, just wait and see what we’ve got. I think it’s gonna be pretty damn good.
New content on Rantlister will be arriving shortly.
Now that Rantlister is up and running again, our next move will be to complete the DrakeGTA Archives over at DrakeGTA.com. Work on that should be starting this weekend, if it hasn’t already (chances are it has). We’re so far ahead of schedule right now it’s ridiculous. I didn’t expect us to be finished Rantlister until at least the third week of March. I’ve even got an article slated to post in the second or third week of April that makes it seem like we’re just starting work on DrakeGTA.com. Fuck it, I’m leaving it in there.
Once DrakeGTA is done, there are plans to renovate AngryJerk.net. This site looks like a ghetto-ass mess, and it’s time to get up off our asses and actually do something about it. I don’t quite have anything in my mind’s eye just yet, so if any of you fine folks out there in Readerland have anything you want to see or think would look good feel free to suggest it in the comments. If there’s any writers or recurring segments you’d like to see more of, let us know.
I’m getting ahead of myself here.
Go check out the new Rantlister, and kill some time reading the old websites from the golden age of internet ranting. And don’t forget to bookmark it, because new content is coming sooner than me in a bed with Kristin Schall Sydney Sweeney.
